The Caves of Mopan are located close to Dolores, Peten, and were named so because of the proximity to the Mopan River. They are described as an adventure full of risks for the lovers of extreme sports. In order to visit these caves, it is advised to take ropes and ladders because there are a few spots where climbing is necessary. Also, inside the caves, temperatures reached 10 degrees celsius. These caves were found 6 years ago by a group of turism students. Inside the caves, were found several fragments of prehispanic ceramic. It is possible to see stalagtytes and stalagmytes. A guide from the place explains that according to the Maya Mythology, these caves were sacred because they provide and entrance to the underwold.

Pathfinder Resources Ltd, Gold-Ore Resources and Santoy Resources Ltd. are the names of three Canadian Mining companies looking for uranium and other metal in the deparment of Chiquimula, Guatemala. Inhabitants of this part of the country are worried about this explorations, even though the Ministry of Mining in Guatemala says that the mining licenses include other minerals. According to The Ministry of Mining, the licenses are for metals like copper, zinc, gold, silver, uranium, magnesium, argon, etc. It would be good for this area to have these companies exploring for these metals because if something if found, it can provide job opportunities for the inhabitants. At the same time, it could also be dangerous if is not done properly. I guess, as long as there are no open pit mines it would be ok because then no damage would be done to the environment. So far as I know, uranium can contaminate the water sources and the air if it is not mined properly. Let’s see what happens….

Members of the International Union of Modern Pentatlon visited Guatemala to make an inspection of the installations where this competition will take place. Guatemala has 9 months to finalize the installations for the competition. According to one of the inspectors, Guatemala will benefit from this world class event because of the new installations and the equipment that will be left to be used by the Guatemalan athletes. According to their information, more than 200 athletes from 50 countries will be participating in this event. This event will take place from the 15th to the 22nd of november of this year. Let us hope that Guatemala can be a good host and more events of this kind can be given to Guatemala

El compatriota Guatemaltecoa jugando en la MLS, Carlos "El Pescado Ruiz", acaba de ganar el premio por el gol de la decada en la MLS. El Pescadito consiguio esta anotacion de chilena el 28 de maya de 2005 jugando contra el DC United. El Pescadito se a destacado en esta clase de vistosas anotaciones. En este concurso, se escogieron 30 goles de la primera decada de MLS. Cuando se escogieron las 10 mejores, el Pescadito tenia 3 entradas en este concurso. La decision final fue hecha por la votacion de los seguidores de la MLS en su sitio web. Que bueno que el Pescado Ruiz siga poniendo en el nombre del futbol Guatemalteco en alto en la MLS. Esperemos que hayan mas jugadores Guatemaltecos en esta liga poniendo el nombre de Guatemala en alto. Felicitaciones Pescado.
