CHAPINADAS

The “Fuentes Georginas” are thermal fountains that are considered by many to be medicinal. These fountains are located a few kilometers away from Zunil, Quetzaltenango. These fountains were closed for a few months due to damages sustained during Hurricane Stan. This is one of the main attractions for turists from Guatemala and other countries to Quetzaltenango. Not long ago, and after a few months of repairs and upgrades, the fountains are open again to everybody, hoping to attract the turists that used to visit the place before. At the moment, this place offers restaurant services, cabanas and thermal pools. It also offers ecoturism expeditions throught the paths around the mountains near the place. The road leading to the place is in good condition and there are also signs leading to the place. Let’s visit our natural wonders Guatemala.

Lago de los Cisnes (Swan lake)

“Los Aposentos” is a recreational center located in Chimaltenango. The main attraction to this place is , “El lago de los Cisnes” or” Swan lake”. “Los Aposentes” can be reached on the highway that goes to Antigua Guatemala. It is one of the main turistic attractions in Chimaltenango. This park opened over a hundred years ago. One of its main characteristics is the many water pools that originate in the place. It was declared a national park in 1955 by then president Carlos Castillo Armas. Visitors can enjoy themselves by doing some climbing, take a ride in the boats, eat typical food of the department and rest under the shadows of many trees. There are also four swimming pools, stores and places for children to play. There is also a small zoo where it is possible to see different examples of Guatemala’s fauna.

A mi forma de pensar, es muy bueno para la imagen de nuestro pais, que Guatemala se haya integrado con las Naciones Unidas con el proposito de mantener la paz. Es bastante triste el leer noticias asi como estas, especialmente cuando es sangre de nuestros compatriotas siendo derramada en el extranjero. A la vez, debemos de reflexionar que la muerte de estos soldados Guatemaltecos vino a pasar en una mision con el buen proposito de traer la paz a este pais africano con una historia bastante triste. Esperemos que el resto de nuestros soldados y sus nuevos reemplazos puedan seguir y terminar la mision sin perder mas vidas.
