CHAPINADAS

I was reading an article that appeared in the newspaper “El Periodico”. In this article, it is reported that the 11th, edition of Survivor Guatemala took the first place according to the polls. CBS, which is the network that transmits this program, was in first place at the time this program was shown. Taking into consideration that some of the other shows being shown in the other networks were popular, it can be said that at least 200 million people watched this program. Hopefully, the exposure that out country is getting with this program can provide a huge boom in the turism industry. Let’s hope that as the program goes on, more places and history can be shown to showcase our beautiful country.

Segun el periodico “La Prensa Libre”, un grupo de arqueologos espanoles han encontrado grabados prehispanicos y de el tiempo de la conquista en varios lugares en el sitio de Yaxha-Naranjo. En estos dibujos hechos en la roca y murales se pueden distinguir diferentes clases de animales que existian en esta region hace miles de anos. Tambien es posible distinguir figuras de plantas de esta area. Es bastante importante el notar de que en este sitio habian muchas muestras de posibles robos de piezas mayas. En este momento debido a la ayuda de vecinos de este lugar, ya no han habido muestras de esto. Me pregunto cuantas joyas arqueologicas estan sin ser descubiertas. A la vez, tambien pienso de que algunas veces es mejor de que permanezcan ocultas debido a que en nuestro pais es bastante dificil conseguir los fondos para mantener sitios como este. Esperemos que el turismo ingrese, y que las personas en cargo de entidades como el INGUAT puedan utilizar fondos conseguidos por el turismo para proteger, escavar y estudiar estos sitios que son un patrimonio nacional y de el mundo.
